Port Alfred Little Train – Family Railway Experience at the Historic Station

Port Alfred Little Train – Family Railway Experience at the Historic Station

Step aboard the Port Alfred Little Train and enjoy one of the town’s most unique family attractions. Located at the historic Port Alfred Railway Station, this miniature steam train experience celebrates the rich railway heritage that once connected Port Alfred to the rest of the Eastern Cape.

The original railway line played an important role in the town’s history, with the first steam train departing Port Alfred Station on 24 December 1883. Rail services continued for more than a century until the final train departed the station in May 1993.

Today, local railway enthusiasts Don Broedelet and Don Fryer have helped bring part of that history back to life by restoring activity to the old station and creating a miniature steam train experience that visitors of all ages can enjoy.

The one-hour train ride offers a fun and memorable outing for families, railway enthusiasts and visitors looking for something different during their stay in Port Alfred. Children especially enjoy the excitement of riding behind a working miniature locomotive while learning about the town’s railway heritage.

Whether you’re reliving childhood memories of train travel or introducing a new generation to the magic of railways, the Port Alfred Little Train offers a charming journey through local history and community spirit.
